Direct contracts can cut costs [Video]

Health care systems are always looking for solutions that allow them to provide high-level care while maintaining costs. Direct employer contracts have become one way to do so.

By essentially cutting out the middleman, these contracts help contain costs for providers and patients. What could be better than that? There are some caveats to the approach, though.

It’s not fit for every size employer, remaining mostly popular among big, national companies with a lot of personnel.

In spite of these issues, direct contracts are growing. A 2014 survey from Aon Hewitt found that 11 percent of employees are using some form of them, while 28 percent expect to do so in the next three to five years.
