After a year rife with health care data breaches, the industry is being lobbed with another major security risk: organized cyberattacks.
These hacks are slightly more sophisticated than those that came before, primarily exploiting software weaknesses or phishing for sensitive data. According to a study from the Ponemon Institute, many healthcare organizations have experienced one hack per month in the last year.
For this reason, IT experts are considering the ways health care needs to rethink its approach to cybersecurity. Security Intelligence has suggested that providers look to free up resources to invest in cybersecurity, particularly in finding the right personnel. Some providers choose to outsource operations like revenue cycle management to focus on other efforts.
