Nursing demand has surged staffing costs [Video]

A lot of the uncertainty leading up to the Affordable Care Act led many health care systems to pare down on jobs, especially in nursing. However, now that affordable health care is here, the industry is in the midst of a hiring boom to play catch-up, leading to a reported increase in staffing costs.

To meet the demand of nursing positions, the health care industry has added over 400 thousands jobs this year alone. Affordable healthcare has incited an influx of new patients that have contributed to this rapidly increasing demand.

Many hospital operators have needed to use contract labor in order to fill these needs, which has surged their staffing expenses and led to some reporting a decrease in net income in the third quarter.
